-Body Products-

I have known about organic and natural products for a long time and I used to see them as an extra unnecessary expense…

What I didn’t realise, at the time, was that our skin is our biggest organ and absorbs everything we put on it!!

I remember one of my first workshops with a beautiful naturopath named Kerry. She taught me that the shower is actually the most toxic place in your home if it doesn’t have a water filter on it. Think about it…warm/hot water opens your pores and your skin absorbs everything!

This started me on my path of realising my patterns, my routines and what I was actually exposing myself to on a daily basis.

The bleach I was using to clean my shower not only gave me a headache and made me feel dizzy but it was actually entering my blood stream.

Every time I sprayed deodorant under my arms or dry shampoo in my hair I would have to quickly run out of the room because it made me feel like I couldn’t breathe and gave me a headache.

Why didn’t this all click together earlier, I wondered? It took me 6 years of being chronically ill with no answers to finally put the puzzle together and some very helpful and inspiring people along the way. The saying, “you shouldn’t put anything on your skin unless it’s edible”, finally kicked in!

Did you know that unnatural body products can cause a whole range of health concerns from digestive issues to unbalanced hormones, as your liver constantly has to filter it all out of your system for you, let alone all the other repair work that is being done by your body on a daily basis? This is why some people can feel sluggish or lack energy as their body is working really hard to filter, repair, etc.

Remember that it’s never too late to start being proactive about your health!! Do yourself a favour and start today!

Add all ingredients together in a mixing bowl and apply mask all over your hair for at least 30 minutes – yes it will feel weird the first time! Wash hair afterwards. Use as much coconut oil as needed.

  • 2 drops Lavender essential oil
  • 2 drops Rosemary essential oil
  • 2 drops Lemon essential oil

I apply the Scalp Serum 30 minutes before I wash my hair when it needs a bit of an extra boost.

I use doTERRA’s Root to Tip Serum every time I wash my hair, applying it to the ends when my hair is still damp.

Add 2 drops Peppermint and 2 drops Rosemary to your shampoo to improve the health of your hair.

Before a shower dry body brush all over, making sure you brush up towards your heart.

Then intuitively choose between 1-4 essential oils from the options above and add them to fractionated coconut oil. You will only need a few drops of each chosen oil. Apply all over the body once you’ve had a shower to get your lymphatic system pumping.

Once a week I use this all natural body scrub all over before I have a shower. It leaves my skin feeling silky smooth.
It’s made from:

  • Ground and Instant coffee
  • Macadamia oil
  • Wild Orange essential oil

Here are some of my favourite oils that I use on my skin as part of my daily routine. I choose one of the four oils above and place a few drops in fractionated coconut oil and apply to my face and any areas of concern. I’ve been using Salubelle (Also known as Immortelle) on my pimple scars lately and my frown wrinkle as I tend to frown when reading. Fractionated Coconut Oil is amazing as it quickly absorbs, making sure that it doesn’t leave your skin all oily. It also doesn’t solidify in winter. I also use the above oils neat on my face, make sure you check your safety chart to see if you need to dilute for you.

These two oils work a treat for acne and other imperfections on the skin. I personally love Tea Tree for when I get a spot and others love the blend HD Clear. All you need is one drop of oil diluted as recommended for your skin. I personally apply the oil neat on the pimple. The HD clear range also has a moisturiser for acne prone skin which I’ve had to use once, a year ago. I was blown away by how quickly it worked.

I want every girl to know that organic tampons and pads are so important!! They are bleach and chemical free. Also cotton is one of the most pesticide-contaminated crops!! Imagine how many hours we use these items in delicate places, this is why it’s crucial that you buy chemical free pads or tampons. I would also recommend trying a moon cup, even better for the environment. Please share with all females!

Sunscreen is another important one as your skin absorbs everything!! I personally don’t use sunscreen anymore unless I go to the beach during the middle of the day and stay in the sun for a while. This rarely happens though as I usually go to the beach early in the morning or late in the afternoon. I also expose my skin to at least 5 minutes of sun every single day to build up its resistance to the sun. I highly recommend this Wotnot brand for sunscreen as it’s free from titanium dioxide.

All girls need dry shampoo for the days that you just don’t have time to wash your hair. Most importantly, you want something natural! I also use this on my dogs when they need freshening up after the beach.

All you need is organic corn starch and 2 drops each of Rosemary, Lavender and Peppermint essential oils.

If you have brown or darker hair then add some organic cacao powder to the corn starch until it’s the right colour for you. 🙂

As I talked about earlier, the shower is the most toxic place in your home, unless you have a shower filter…. I’m currently using this Vitamin C Shower Filter to filter out the chlorine. Your skin feels so much nicer, silkier and cleaner with a filter too! When we renovate our bathroom I’m going to get a Zazen shower filter as it is more modern looking and is incorporated into the shower head instead of sticking out the side like my current one. I can get wholesale prices for those that want more info.

Natural toothpaste is another must have in our house! Our toothpaste is free of chemicals and fluoride. My teeth and gums have never been healthier! I used to use Sensodyne as I damaged all the enamel many years ago when I was squeezing lemon into warm water. But since using the doTERRA toothpaste it has not only naturally whitened my teeth, boosted my immune and killed any bacteria/germs in my mouth but also repaired my sensitive teeth. One of the key ingredients for this is Clove essential oil.

Another great way to reduce your toxic load is to tongue scrape and oil pull every single morning. As soon as we get up we scrape all the toxins off our tongue and then coconut pull for as long as we can. We add either one drop of Myrrh or On Guard oil to our coconut oil. The recommended time to oil pull is about 20 mins but I always say that any amount of time is better than none. I usually do it whilst I’m making breakfast, doing my hair or make-up. Some people do it whilst showering. Make sure you spit it in the earth, not on plants as your toxins will kill them over time.

Chemical free deodorant is a must!! In a 10ml or 30ml rollerball bottle add:

  • 15 drops Purify essential oil
  • 5 drops Ylang Ylang essential oil
  • 5 drops Frankincense essential oil
  • 5 drops Lemon essential oil
  • 5 drops Lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops Patchouli essential oil
  • Fill the remaining space with doTERRA fractionated coconut oil as it absorbs quickly and doesn’t solidify.

My favourite natural deodorants that actually work and have ingredients you can easily read! They keep me smelling fresh all day. You can also add a drop of your favourite essential oil to give it a nice smell as they come neutral smelling. Perfect for women and men!
