How We Use Oils

Sometimes when we first get our oils sent to us and it’s all exciting when that purple box arrives, but when we open it up and we realise… “I don’t know how to use them!?” No worries!

We felt like that at first too! It’s like anything we do for the first time! We just need to invest a little bit of time to get massive results with these oils. So let’s get comfortable with integrating something new into our lives and make sure we have the best resources to show us how to use them..

Byron’s Daily Routine

One of the questions we’re often asked is, “How do you use the oils on a daily basis”.
So we thought we’d give you a bit of a guide on what we use and do in a typical day.

Renee’s Daily Routine

Sample Guides

doTERRA has so many fantastic oils and products on offer, but to keep it simple, we’ve provided a short guide on how we use some of our favourite oils that we often give out.

*Please note these are not recommendations, but simply an example of how we use them. Always dilute your oils for infants and sensitive skin and consult your family physician.

For everything digestion! As the name suggests.. This oils brings ‘Zen’ to your digestion. If you’ve had a bit too much to eat. Or eaten food that doesn’t agree with you, then rub 3-5 drops of DigestZen over your bowels or try 2-3 drops in a glass of water! All of nature’s digestive supporting plants and herbs are found in this blend; Ginger, Peppermint, Caraway, Coriander, Anise, Tarragon and Fennel. Renee never left the home without this essential oil. In fact, if we ever forgot it, we’d turn around even if we were 20mins away from home to go get it. This was Renee’s absolute life saver during the early days of managing her gut issues. She would apply and ingest the oils as suggested above whenever she reacted to certain foods. She loves to share her story and assist others on their journey. Check out her blog article here.

Balance is such a lovely grounding blend of woods and florals. Our favourite way to use Balance is by placing 2-3 drops on the base of each foot morning and night on a daily basis. If you’ve already got your shoes on, not to worry.. We just pop 3-4 drops on the back of our neck. Everyone can benefit from the relaxing properties Balance has to offer. We like to thinking of balancing as ‘An invitation to spaces in our life’. It has the ability to anchor us in this present moment and consciously choose how we respond in giving situations.

Lavender Peace

This is our go to oil for anyone that hasn’t tried doTERRA before. We simply take lid off and smell the calming aromas of Lavender, Sandalwood and the sweet end note of Vanilla Bean, to name a few.. We love to use Lavender Peace, also known as Serenity, every night in our diffuser, on the back of our neck and bottoms of our feet to aid a restful night’s sleep. This is the oil that Byron had huge success with aiding sleeplessness.

Easy Air (Breathe)

Think of Breathe as your natural vicks, we love to diffuse it on the bedside, apply a couple of drops topically over the chest or even put a couple of drops in the palms of your hands, rub them together and inhale the aromas. We’re always blown away at how well this works for our little girl.

On Guard

This is our seasonal threat go to blend. We put a couple of drops in  a small amount of water, gargle and swallow whenever we have a scratchy throat or a lingering seasonal threat. It’s also fantastic to use a preventative  by applying a couple of drops under the feet and diffusing them in common areas.

So uplifting and invigorating. Place a drop on the back of your hand and lick it off for a blast of fresh breath and invigorating the mind. Also a great pre workout pick me up or wake up first thing in the morning. This is the first oil we were introduced to!

Tea Tree (Melaleuca)

Great for any skin related concerns along with many other uses..  It makes a powerful partner with Oregano to ward off seasonal threats.. Check out this video to how effectively they work together.

Nature’s Swiss army knife with so many uses! Some of our favourite ones include; simply smelling the aromas when you’re having feelings of anxiousness or applying a couple of drops under the feet or on the back of the neck to aid with a restful night’s sleep. We also use Lavender on any burns we get in the kitchen, even when you burn your mouth on hot food!

Wild Orange

This is one of our favourite oils to sample as it not only smells beautiful, but it also tastes amazing! Our favourite use is placing 2-3 drops in a glass of water and mixing them in for a happy uplifting effect. We also love our Wild Orange Bliss Balls.. A healthy snack that tastes like Jaffa!

Wild Orange Bliss Balls

  • 1 cup medjool dates (pitted)
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds
  • 1/2 cup cashews
  • 1/3 cup cacao powder
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil (melted)
  • 1/3 cup shredded coconut
  • 3-5 drops of Wild Orange Oil

Blend all ingredients together. Then roll the balls in desiccated coconut or chia seeds and place them in the fridge. Makes 8-10 balls depending on size. If you’re short on time, add the blended ingredients to a try and serve them as a slice!

References We Love

Like we mentioned earlier.. There’s a lot of information out there.. And a lot of different oils with loads of benefits.. But remember, you have the power in the palm of your hands to access scientifically backed information in the form of Apps and Books.

Because doTERRA is different, we can use them in ways that other oils can’t be used. The oils are powerful and potent, are sourced from their country of origin, and go through a series of thorough testing to ensure they can be used safely in the these three main ways; Aromatically (smell through diffusion or other), Topically (applied to our skin), Internally / Orally (ingestion with food, water or drops in mouth etc).

To make sure we’re getting access to and referencing the latest information that correlates with doTERRA’s products, we love, use, and recommend the following reference materials. Obviously you don’t need to have them all.. You can build your library up over time, but we recommend having either the Modern Essentials Book or App, Or the Essential Life Book as necessary guides to ensure you’re getting the most out of your oils and you’re using them safely.

A popular combination we’re finding is The Modern Essentials App for your phone and the Essential Life Book, for your book shelf or coffee table.

The Modern Essentials Book or App

The original comprehensive guide to essential oil usage that provides everything from the history to the science and constituent makeup of the oils. We find the Modern Essentials appeals to the left brain, scientific and analytic kind of people who love to have reference and citation, but aren’t excited by pretty pictures and cool blends. We especially love the ‘Personal Use’ section of the Modern Essentials Book & App. The book is available from http://au.aromatools.com and the Apps from your phone’s app store. Just search for ‘Modern Essentials’ and look for the blue icon.

The Essential Life Book

The Essential Life is beautifully illustrated book full of practical blends and recipes. We find The Essential Life great for your right brain creative types who love to be visually engaged and get creative with the blends and recipes on offer throughout the book. We also often cross reference between The Modern Essentials and The Essential Life as The Essential Life provides is more specific in the Quick Reference section at the font of the book. The Essential Life is available from http://au.oillife.com along with some other great resources.
